Justice Abdulazeez Anka of a
Lagos Division of the Federal
High Court Thursday
awarded a cost of N20,000
against Olukoya Ogungbeje,
counsel to suspected
kidnapper, Chukwudumeme
Onwuamadike, popularly
known as Evans.
The judge further issued a
warning to Mr. Ogungbeje to
desist from practices
unbecoming of a legal
practitioner.
The judge issued the orders
while adjourning a
fundamental rights suit filed
on behalf of Evans by Mr.
Ogungbeje, over alleged
illegal detention.
Joined as respondents in the
suit are: The Nigeria Police
Force, Lagos State Police
Command, The Commissioner
of Police Lagos State, and the
Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Evans had sought a court’s
order directing the
respondents to immediately
charge him to court in
accordance with
constitutional provisions, if
there existed any case against
him.
In the alternative, he had
sought an order compelling
the respondents to
immediately release him
unconditionally in the
absence of any charge.
The case, which was
scheduled for hearing on
Thursday, could not proceed
as Mr. Ogungbeje, was absent
in court.
When the case was called, a
litigation officer from Mr.
Ogungbeje’s law firm,
Stephen Abunike, told the
court that his principal was
indisposed and had written a

Buhari ‘sends condolences’ to Bisi Akande over wife’s death
President Muhammadu
Buhari has expressed “heart-
felt” sadness over the death
of Omowunmi Akande, wife
of the founding chairman of
the governing All
Progressives Congress, APC.
In a letter to the bereaved
party chieftain on
Wednesday, President Buhari
described as “irreparable”
the loss by Chief Akande of
his wife of 50 years, the
presidency said.
The president’s spokesperson,
Garba Shehu, said Mr. Buhari
had earlier phoned the
family to condole with them.
The President’s message
reads as follow: “I received
the very sad news of the
death of your dearly beloved
wife, Madam Omowunmi
Akande this morning.
I am following our phone call
with this letter of condolence,
which comes from my heart.
“To lose a wife, a dear wife

faith can withstand.
Please extend my personal
condolences to the immediate

this irreparable loss.
“May Allah give you the

her passing away.”
Brazil full-back Dani Alves joined Paris St-Germain on a free transfer snubbing Manchester City.
Alves, who has signed a two-year deal, has opted against joining up with his former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
City were prepared to give the 34-year-old a two-year contract, but would not match the £230,000 a week it is understood he will receive in France.
Tottenham’s Kyle Walker remains City’s top target at right-back.
As City have so far failed to agree a fee with Spurs for England defender Walker, they are currently without a recognised right-back following the summer departures of out-of-contract duo Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.
According to BBC Sports, the club are understood to be relaxed about the situation despite the fact they will leave for a three-match tour of the United States – featuring matches against Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham – on Monday.
Alves was a free agent after Juventus released him from his contract early following one season in Italy, in which he helped them to the Serie A and Coppa Italia double.
PSG announced his arrival with a video of the player printing his name and number on a shirt.
“Believe me, I am coming to Paris to win,” said Alves, who is the 30th Brazilian to play for the Ligue 1 club.
“In recent years, I have been able to gauge the incredible growth of this club, which has become a European football powerhouse. It’s very exciting to now be part of this great project.”

Real Madrid have offloaded Burgui onto
second-tier side Alaves.
Burgui spent last season on loan at Sporting
Gijon and has signed a four-year contract at
Alaves.
It is claimed Burgui has been sold for a minimal
fee.
But the Bernabeu side have inserted a buy-back
clause in the 23-year-old's contract in case they
decide to bring him back to the capital.
14:00: Barcelona have signed teenager Vitinho
from Palmeiras on loan, with a £10m option to
buy.
Vitinho, 19, will play for Barca's B team this
season and could be promoted to the first team
if he impresses.
"I'm really happy to be here," Vitinho told
Barcelona’s website.
"I have always been a big follower of Barca, the
best club in the world, and now I can play for the
same team where Rivaldo and Ronaldinho were
such a success and with my idol, Neymar."
13:30: Chelsea are the bookies favourites to sign
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solheko claimed
Borussia Dortmund offered their prolific striker to
Chelsea for £70million.
And bookmakers Betway have now made them
clear favourites to sign the Gabon international.
Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “After losing out on
Romelu Lukaku last week, Dortmund striker
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is said to be
Chelsea’s latest transfer target with the striker
5/4 to join the Blues this summer.
“Dortmund have slapped a £70m price tag on
Aubameyang and it looks to be either him or
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, shorter in the
betting at 4/11, who will head to the west
London club.”
12:00 Real Madrid have named Chelsea target
Alvaro Morata in their US pre-season tour squad.
Morata will get a glimpse of what might have
been as Real Madrid and Manchester United
share the same facilities in Los Angeles.
The full Real Madrid squad:
Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Kiko Casilla, Ruben
Yanez, Luca Zidane
Defenders: Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Nacho,
Marcelo, Theo Hernandez, Danilo, Luis Quezada,
Alvaro Tejero, Achraf Hakimi, Manu Hernando
Midfielders: Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric,
Isco, Mateo Kovacic, Oscar, Franchu
Forwards: Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Lucas
Vazquez, Alvaro Morata, Dani Gomez
11:05: Manchester United have moved quickly to
deny they were beaten to the signing of James
Rodriguez.
Bayern Munich signed the talented midfielder
from Real Madrid yesterday on a two-year loan
deal with an option to buy.
But while the Red Devils were frequently linked
with the Colombian international, the
SundayWorld claim Jose Mourinho's side were
never interested in signing him.

Rather impressively, a number of clubs have

both Bernardo Silva and Ederson, but rivals
United have caught them up landing the
summer's biggest deal so far, Romelu
Lukaku from Everton . The Toffees
meanwhile Everton have signed six new

Sunday June 25
11:45: Paris Saint-Germain would be the perfect
destination for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge
this summer, according to Jason McAteer.
Former Red McAteer told the Sunday Mirror: “I
think it will be good for Daniel to get away.
"There’s no doubt he has quality and is a
fantastic player, who is still only 27, but he just
doesn’t play enough.
"I’ve heard West Ham want to sign him. But my
personal opinion is that Daniel would thrive at
somewhere like PSG. Playing with superstars like
Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria would suit his
game. In France, he would also be out of the
constant spotlight.
“The stumbling block would be the fee and
whether Liverpool get the £40million they want
for him, which remains to be seen.
“It could depend on Ronaldo. If he left Madrid,
I’m certain he’d join PSG – and that would rule
out them moving for Sturridge. But, whatever
happens, the time is right for Daniel to move.”
Daniel Sturridge has been backed for a move to
PSG by former Liverpool star Jason McAteer
11:25: Arsenal youngster Chris Willock is set to
leave the club and join Benfica, reports claim.
The 19-year-old England starlet is out of contract
at the Emirates this month, and a move away is
in the pipeline.
According to the Mirror, Willock is close to
agreeing a long-term deal with the Portuguese
giants.
The Londoner is said to have travelled to Benfica
to discuss terms, and he could even line up
against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup next month.
11:10: Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing
Barcelona star Jordi Alba to Manchester United,
reports in Spain claim.
The Portuguese boss is a big fan of the Spaniard
and wants him at Old Trafford next season.
Spanish publication Diario Gol claim the Red
Devils have now made an approach for the
defender.
Barcelona are thought to be open to the idea of
selling him if United make a substantial offer.
10:50: Jose Mourinho wants Harry Kane at
Manchester United ahead of a sensational return
for Cristiano Ronaldo, reports claim.
The Real Madrid superstar’s future remains up in
the air amid his accusations of tax fraud in
Spain, but a potential move back to Old Trafford
is being ruled out.
Instead, the Mirror say Mourinho has made it
clear to United’s hierarchy Spurs and England
striker Kane appeals more.
A £100m bid could give Tottenham chairman
Daniel Levy something to think about, but they
are not ready to listen to offers.
Mourinho, meanwhile, is said to want Kane and
Alvaro Morata to spearhead his attack next term.
Anthony Martial is a £40m target for Arsenal,
and he may be replaced at Man Utd by Spurs'

10:30: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will
reportedly turn his attentions to Manchester
United’s Anthony Martial if he fails to land Kylian
Mbappe.
The Gunners boss is supposedly obsessed with
signing Monaco’s teenage sensation, although a
world-record deal will prove difficult to seal.
As a result, the Daily Mail claim a £40m move
for Martial is in the pipeline too.
Arsenal will apparently conduct negotiations for
the Frenchman above managerial level, due to
Wenger and Jose Mourinho’s rivalry.
It is hoped United’s board would instead agree to
selling Martial, who endured a difficult season at
Old Trafford.
10:15: Chelsea have lodged a £105million bid for
Juventus duo Leonardo Bonucci and Alex
Sandro.
Both players are top targets for Antonio Conte to
help bolster his defence.
And Express Sport understands the Blues are
now waiting to hear back from the Serie A club if
their offer has proved successful.
Conte made it clear in contract talks with
Chelsea last week he wants both Bonucci and
Sandro added to his squad this summer.

Sultan declares today Sallah as Buhari speaks from London Sultan declares today Sallah as Buhari speaks from London sultan-declares-today-sallah-as-buhari-warns-against-reckless-statements/
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, said, yesterday, that Sallah to mark the end of Ramadan fast is today after the new moon was sighted in parts of the country, including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The Sultan, therefore, asked Muslims all over Nigeria to cease to fast as it is not permitted to fast on Sallah day. Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari sent a Sallah message, last night, congratulating Nigerians while cautioning against reckless statements or actions. Senate President Bukola Saraki, several state governors, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, among others, sued for unity and peace on the occasion of the Sallah celebration. Buhari congratulated Muslims and Christians on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr, urging all citizens to resolve to live in peace and avoid making reckless statements. The President in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, urged Nigerians to live together in peace and unity so as to make the country a great one. President Muhammadu Buhari Saraki, in his message, urged all Nigerians and Muslims to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, peace, patriotism and love for one another as a way of building a strong and united nation, just as he reiterated his call on Nigerians to continue to pray for the quick recovery of President Buhari. The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, called on the Muslim Ummah to sustain the virtues of endurance, discipline, and love imbibed during the holy month of Ramadan. In his message, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu asked those calling for violence or issuing quit notice to other Nigerians to leave their areas to desist from such. The statement, issued by Tinubu Media Office and signed by his Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, was entitled “Eid-el-Fitri Message: The Spirit, Strength of Our Diversity”.Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State urged Nigerians to embrace the virtues of tolerance, unity and cooperation regardless of ethnic, religious or social status.

Do not pay the new school fees says the sug president
By Alfred Saiki, Rhoda Yakubu, Mary Vontau and Ogechi Anyanwu,
The end of the on-going saga between the management of the University of Jos and the Student Union Government (SUG) doesn’t seem to be in sight, as the President of the SUG, Sidney Daman, has urged the students not to pay the new school fees purportedly increased by the management without proper consultation with the SUG.
SUG PRESIDENT, SIDNEY AND SUG PRO, EMMANUEL
The SUG President, Sidney Daman in an exclusive interview with REALITY, today, expressed his disappointment with the management of University of Jos and accused the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sabastine Maimako of lying to parents at the stakeholders meeting.
“On the 16th of this month, the Vice Chancellor at a meeting with parents, stake holders and the management said some certain things at the meeting, like the student union had agreed that each student was going to be levied the sum of 1000 naira each for the renovation of the burnt library at the Naraguta campus. For us in the Student Union Government (SUG), it is a total lie! Because there was never a time we sat anywhere with the management to discuss this. We never heard of this till the VC mentioned it at the meeting”. Daman stated.
Daman went further to add that, “Again he said students have agreed to pay the sum of 45,000 naira as new school fees, yes it true we have been having negotiations with the management, but as I speak to you, there was never a time we agreed that students should pay the said amount. In all the meetings we have had with management, we as students have always said “NO” to the increment. So it perturbs me to hear that the VC would say that students have agreed to pay the 45,000 naira school fees”.
Asked what message he has for the students, as their leader and spokes person, the SUG President said “For me and my exco, our message to the students is quite simple, we don’t want any student to pay this money, we are saying no to this increment. What the VC said is not true. He lied to parents. The students should not pay as negotiations continue with the management”.
UNIJOS SUG PRESIDENT, SIDNEY You would recall that recently the University of Jos was engulfed with complains and issues of students paying into wrong accounts. The SUG President laid the blame squarely at the doorstep of the school management.
“Students made payment but they were issued with fake receipts and this problem is an internal problem. It emanated from the ICT, there was porosity on the side of the school management, students were paying into a wrong account or into wrong hands. In the process of negotiation with the school management to find a lasting solution so that at the end of the day both management and students would be happy, due to the pressure the school management put on the students by telling them that if you don’t pay your school fees, you are not a student and you would not be allowed to write your exams, students out of fear started paying the school fees, and it was too late for us as a union to intervene because most of our members had gone ahead to pay the school fees out of fear”.
On his part the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the SUG, Emmanuel Jesse, wanted the students to have faith in the administration of Sidney Daman led SUG, assuring students that they would protect their interest at all times.
“The theme of the Sidney Daman led Exco is the re introduction of the ideology of student unionism back on campus and ever since we assumed office we have been trying through various means and projects to achieve that. Sadly our administration was plagued by a lot of issues like the school fees saga and the burnt library. This affected student’s relationship with the SUG, especially with the school fees issue”.
“For the increment issue, as you heard the SUG President say, we held a meeting of our own after the stake holders meeting with the VC. What amazed us most was when the VC referred to us as observers, how can you call a meeting of stakeholders in a university and say students are observers. The SUG President tried to speak but he was not given an opportunity to speak”.
“So we held a meeting of our own on Friday and we discussed with a great majority and representatives of the students, and we unanimously agreed to say no to the 45,000 naira increment. This increment pinches everybody, whether the rich or poor. I cannot be in a civil service state, where my parents are earning 18,000 naira, and we are two in University of Jos, which means we would pay 90,000 naira. Mind you we still have to pay for hostel accommodation, aside monies given to us for upkeep and school books”.
“It was a unanimous agreement to reject the increment and students are solidly behind us and this struggle. We are also imploring the students, “Nobody should pay the 45,000 naira.

Man gives out free kilishi worth 200,000 to celebrate buhari's return
A number of Nigerians, especially citizens from the Northern parts of the country, have been celebrating the return of President Muhammadu Buhari following his days of medical vacation in London.
Friday, we reported that a man celebrated by giving out free water melon (read here) and another celebrated by drinking muddied water from the floor (read here). Saturday, Twitter user A.S. Aruwa reports that a man resident in Jos distributed free kilishi worth N200,000 in celebration of the President's return.
Rumours of death and an extremely poor health had surfaced following the president's long absence, so it's understandable that his most faithful supporters will want to celebrate this way now that he's back in good health.

Father sues monster energy drink for the death of his son
A 19 year old teenager, Dustin Hood, downed 3 1/2, 24-ounce cans of Monster Energy drink within a 24-hour period back in 2015 and died, now his father is blaming the buzz drink company for his son's death and is suing them for unspecified damages, according to TMZ reports.
According to the lawsuit, after drinking the last can, his son played basketball and collapsed face first on the concrete court. He was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. According to the lawsuit, Dustin died of cardiac arrhythmia, caused by a caffeine overload.
The suit which was filed last week claims 3 1/2 cans of Monster has the equivalent caffeine content of 14, 12 ounce cans of Coca Cola. The suit also notes that some other people have suffered cardiac arrest following the "acute consumption" of Monster Energy drink.
In February 2016, a Washington state man named Brian Smith sued Monster after suffering a stroke that he says was brought upon by downing four 16-ounce cans of Monster in a single day: equivalent to 640 mg of caffeine, or 18 Cokes’ worth.
Mr. Smith says he has suffered lasting injuries since the stroke occurred three years ago, in 2013. His attorney, Leo Shishmanian of Phillips Law Firm, writes in court papers,
“Despite the well-known health risks associated with excessive caffeine consumption, Monster Energy is heavily marketed towards children, teenagers and young adults – those individuals most susceptible to caffeine-related injury.”
In recent years, the U.S Food and Drug Administration has linked Monster energy drinks to five deaths. The company has come under significant legal fire.

How boko haram help buhari to win the previous election
Leader of the defunct leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari greatly benefited from the activities of the Boko Haram sect.
According to him, Buhari created Boko Haram insurgents, who succeeded in insaling him into power in 2015.
In an interview with 247ngTV, the former militant asked the people of Kaduna to go and kill those attacking them and stop complaining.
Asari said, “For me, the life of every human being matters and as it is said, equity helps those who help themselves. The people of Southern Kaduna cannot fold their hands.
“It is stupidity for them to fold their arms. They should also go out and kill them. That is what we do here in Ijaw, if you attempt to kill us, we will kill you.”
On the activities of the Boko Haram sect, the Niger Delta warlord said, “Buhari is the creator of Boko Haram. Buhari benefited from the activities of the sect because on the day of the election, Boko Haram went to sleep and you had millions of votes from the north.
“I can tell you without fear that Boko Harm is working hand in hand with Buhari and he can’t deny that. The person who lost the battle of Boko Haram is Goodluck Jonathan. They use it as a smear campaign together with the satanic Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama.”
Asked about his views on the release of the Chibok girls, Asari said, “I have said it before, there are no missing Chibok girls, the Chibok girls that wrote WAEC that could not speak English. In what language were they writing exam?”
