Ten players who could be on the move in January, and their possible destinations

With a month to go until the winter window opens, we look at the players set for a move to or from the Premier League

Premier League clubs spent £165.4million last January. Newcastle (£26.3m), Watford (£26m) and Norwich (£23m) were the most profligate, though it didn't stop two of them from being relegated.

While more singings are no guarantee of more points we can expect to see a similar splurge during the 2017 winter window, which is now just a month away.

Manchester United are expecting bids for as many as ten of their first team squad, although they're only actively looking to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger.

While United are certain to be active both in terms of arrivals and departures in January, they are far from the only Premier League club working on deals.

Here, we look at the players most likely to be moving to or from England's top tier.

Victor Lindelöf

Current club: Benfica

Potential destinations: Manchester United, Chelsea

Position: Centre-back, right-back

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already declared Lindelöf good enough to play for United while the defender's agent Hakan Cetinkaya has been talking up a January move.

"The transfer window isn’t open yet, but Victor is already very much in demand," said Cetinkaya. "As a result, I’ve scheduled interviews with some of the biggest clubs in Europe to talk about his future.

"The most important thing is for the deal to be done at the right moment. But I’m optimistic. There’s a good chance he’ll leave the club this winter. If not, it’ll be next summer."

Adrien Silva

Current club: Sporting Clube

Potential destination: Leicester

Position: Central midfielder

Premier League champions Leicester had a £21million bid rejected in August and are considering returning for Silva, who has admitted he would be keen on a move to England.

Speaking during the summer, the Euro 2016 winner said: "Leicester is very interesting and corresponds to my career goals.

"After the past 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and can allow me to express and impose myself in another championship, and also to evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league."

Memphis Depay

Current club: Manchester United

Potential destination: Everton

Position: Winger, attacking midfielder

Despite failing to recreate the form that earned him a £26million move to England, Depay is not short of suitors and Everton are keen to open talks regarding the former PSV man.

Ronald Koeman feels he can get the best out of him although would prefer a loan move to a permanent transfer.

United are open to bids for the 22-year-old, who is thought to prefer to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Virgil van Dijk

Current club: Southampton

Potential destinations: Liverpool, Everton

Position: Centre-back

Van Dijk is arguably the Premier League's most in-form defender and, while Southampton will be desperate to keep hold of him in January, a move is a definite possibility.

Saints legend Matt Le Tissier has suggested suitors will have to pay £40-50million for the former Celtic man.

He said: “From what I have seen this season, I’d suggest it would take between £40-50m to get Virgil van Dijk away from Southampton. I would be very surprised if he was let go for anything less than that because he has signed a new long-term deal."

A £30-40m bid could, however, be enough to persuade them to sell.

Kasper Dolberg

Current club: Ajax

Potential destinations: Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton

Position: Striker

Nineteen-year-old Dolberg has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances for Ajax this season and has numerous teams trailing him.

Everton are keen on a January movewhile both Manchester clubs are watching him closely.

Manchester City scout Sebastian Arnsen said of Dolberg: "We are keeping a very close eye on him, and when the time is right we’ll make a decision on whether we should act.

"He has a huge potential. He is tall, strong, brave and quick. He has an excellent touch, can play with his back to the goal and take the right decisions.

"And he can finish anywhere in the field. He is so special, and therefore he is of course also on the radar."

Moussa Dembele

Current club: Celtic

Potential destinations: Liverpool, Tottenham

Position: Striker

Celtic snapped him up on a free transfer in July and he's gone on to score 17 goals in 27 appearances since then, including two against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Hoops fans should enjoy him while they can, though, as he looks certain to move either in January0 or at the end of the season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has sent scouts to watch Dembele on five occasions this season while Tottenham are also monitoring his situation and could rival the Reds should they make a move.

Moussa Sissoko

Current club: Tottenham

Potential destinations: Juventus, Inter

Position: Winger, attacking midfielder

Not known for quietly getting on with things at Newcastle, it's taken Sissoko just a few months to start complaining about his situation in north London.

The Frenchman was left out of the squad to face Chelsea last weekend and manager Mauricio Pochettino's quotes about him not deserving a place on the bench could be a sign of things to come.

The decision to sign Sissoko was a rash one and it wouldn't be unlike Spurs to sell him on quickly. Both Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in a January move, depending on the price.

Cesc Fabregas

Current club: Chelsea

Potential destinations: AC Milan, West Ham

Position: Central midfield

Fabregas has fallen out of favour since Antonio Conte's arrival at Stamford Bridge and the club are keen to move him on in January.

The Spaniard's considerable wage packet complicates matters but there is interest in him. Both AC Milan and West Ham are interested in the former Arsenal captain but both clubs would want loan deals with his salary being heavily subsidised by Chelsea.

Fabregas has repeatedly stated he wants to stay in London, especially now that his partner is pregnant, so a move to the Olympic Stadium seems most likely.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Current club: Manchester United

Potential destinations: MLS, Chinese Super League

Position: Central midfield

It is no secret Untied are keen to rid themselves of Schweinsteiger, who is one of the highest earners at the club.

The German made his first appearance of the season in the club's 4-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday, although his return to the fold is likely just an opportunity to put him in the shop window.

Schweinsteiger has already stated he will not play for another European club and a move across the Atlantic seems the most likely option.
